J.L. Hicks Financial Group was founded in July 2018 by James L. Hicks, CFP®, ChFC®, ChSNC™, CFBS, CLU®, MBA. Our firm specializes in college funding, retirement income planning, succession planning, executive benefits programs such as deferred compensation, and corporate retirement plans such as 401k. For our long term clients seeking financial independence, the “winning” combination we believe is maximum income with minimal risks such as market volatility, inflation, premature death, longevity, and long term care.

James L. Hicks, CFP®
Managing Partner

James, who is more commonly called “Jimmy,” is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional with J.L. Hicks Financial Group, located in Vienna, Virginia. Jimmy’s broad knowledge of insurance and investment products can give his clients the confidence they need when working with a financial planner.

Jimmy is a graduate of the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia, which is also where he earned his undergraduate degree. Formerly on the Board of Directors for the Falls Church City Chamber of Commerce (2017), a member of the Million Dollar Round Table (2017 – 2019), Greater Washington Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA), and the Northern Virginia Building Industry Association (NVBIA).

Angelique Ayala
Financial Advisor

Angelique Ayala is a financial representative that understands preparing for the next step in life isn’t always easy. Her combination of experience, professionalism and access to a wide variety of products and services can help you meet your financial goals, estate strategies and insurance needs. Whether your goals include preparing for milestone life events like retirement or college, or whether you’re simply looking for life, disability income or long-term care insurance protection, she promises you a new level of attention, insight and capability.

Angelique is a graduate from George Mason University with a major in finance and a minor in economics. Angelique got into the financial planning business because she has personally seen the impact that a lack of financial education can have on a family. She wishes to educate those around her so they can make smart financial decisions for them and their family.


Jim Roessner
Financial Services Professional

Jim Roessner was born and raised in Langhorne, Pennsylvania. Jim came to Arlington, Virginia to attend Marymount University, where he received his Bachelor's degree in Business and Marketing in 2015.

Through his internship with Aflac, Jim was able to see firsthand many different aspects within the financial services industry, with regards to efficiently managing both benefits that were mandated by law, and those that were not.  It was through his Aflac experience that Jim chose the path to becoming a financial services professional. The team believes that there is no greater value than educating individuals about different strategies available to them.

Jim enjoys spending time outside.  He enjoys hiking the back roads of West Virginia with his friends. He also enjoys visiting family members that live anywhere from New York to Phoenix.

Mark Lester, CFP®
Financial Planning Director and Compliance Officer

Mark Lester, CFP® is a native of West Hartford, Connecticut and began his financial services career in 2001. He found his niche in Financial Planning and soon was appointed the Director of Financial Planning in 2004 for Capitol Financial Partners.

A graduate of The University of Rhode Island with a Bachelor of Science Degree, Mark Lester holds Series 6, 7, 63, 24, and 53 registrations with FINRA ( and is licensed to sell securities in Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Michigan, New York, and Virginia. Mark has also earned an Executive Certificate in Financial Planning from Georgetown University.

Jonathan Jester
Client Relationship Manager

Having joined the team in June of 2019, Jon is the newest member of J.L. Hicks Financial Group. He was born and raised in McLean, Virginia and graduated from McLean High School in 1999. Working as a professional drummer for 20 years, Jon has traveled the world to pursue his passion for music.

Before joining the firm, Jon and his wife, Marissa, lived in Hollywood, California until moving back to the area recently to raise their son, Jax, and to be closer to family.

Charity Reuben
Executive Assistant 

Charity is originally from the Rivers State in Nigeria. Prior to joining J.L. Hicks Financial Group in the summer of 2018, she had worked as an Administrative Executive/HR Manager in the Oil & Gas, Hospitality, and Healthcare industries for over 14 years. She is a seasoned administrator with a mature worldview.

Charity holds a Bachelor's degree in English Literature from Nigeria, and is also chartered in Human Resource Management. Charity enjoys travelling, watching detective movies, and spending time with her daughter and extended family.


Bruce Ondek
Financial Services Professional

Bruce began his career in his father’s family insurance agency in Pittsburgh, and has been a trusted resource for individuals, families, and small to medium sized businesses for over 30 years. He takes the time to understand your needs, explain different options and earn your trust before offering possible solutions. His process helps to ensure that you get on course to achieving your goals and remain on course as life unfolds.  By working with Bruce you can take meaningful, manageable steps toward developing an integrated strategy to help achieve a secure financial future.

Bruce and his wife live in Leesburg, Virginia with their teenage daughter who knows everything, so if he can’t answer your questions, she can!
